Smiles, giggles and just being silly

Here are two beautiful children from Fellowship House in Camden, NJ, that I photographed yesterday for Project Childhood. What an amazing afternoon we had together. I want to thank Lisa and Tony for bringing the children to the photo shoot and to both K and K who were SO much fun! At first they were posing as if they were taking stiff, "cheese" portraits. Once they knew that that was not the way I shoot, they totally let loose and just behaved like adorable children.

Now comes the difficult decision. I can only enter 1 image of each child for Project Childhood. Let me know what image of each best captures the essence of childhood - images 1 - 9. Thanks!

Project Childhood

Chris Lee from Onward Films has put together an amazing project for children. I encourage all of my professional photographer friends, especially those I met at Audrey Woulard's workshop to participate in this very worthwhile and rewarding project. Check out the details below. Congratulations Chris! You are really making a difference!!

the Project Childhood site is due to launch on April 2nd.

Blog4pic

Working on the honor system, professional photographers from across the globe will be asked to complete the following:

1. Offer a free session to a child who normally wouldn't be able to afford one, and then provide the parents with a free portrait from the session.

2. The photo must capture the essence of childhood.

3. Donate your session fee to a children's charity of your choice.

4. Submit the photo (width/height must be 740 x 475 px.) to PROJECT CHILDHOOD along with a link to your charity.

5. The contest is limited to three entries per photographer, but each submission must be of a different child, and must be submitted under the following assumption: You have donated your session fee for each child to a children's charity of your choice.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION is Friday, April 25, 2007 at 11:59 PM PST.

Starting April 2, 2008, entries will be featured in a special gallery at www.projectchildhood.com, compliments of BluDomain.

In addition to having your photo displayed, all participating photographers will be linked from a special links section, along with a link to their charity.

Please ensure you include your name or business (whichever you prefer), along with a link to your site and your children’s charity.

Just another day in paradise

Another fast blog entry. Very cool sting rays in Grand Cayman. Crisp blue waters, incredible waterfalls and bright white smiles in Jamaica. Jamaicans have the most beautiful smiles and are so warm and friendly. Life is good - paradise is awesome. Bartender, another drink, please.

Blogging at 21 knots

...and $.55 per minute in the middle of the ocean, so this post will be a quick one. Great fun at sea. Check out the best looking bartenders on the ship (I know they are going to look at this) from the "Pool Bar." Cheers everyone!

$52 for a pedicure...gimme a break!

Yes, I thought $52 was a little ridiculous for a pedicure. The massage chair I was seated in wasn't even heated. So, "Lincoln Park after Dark" by OPI is always my color of choice (funny..I was just in Lincoln Park/Chicago this week) so tell me - what's your favorite color?

Bon voyage!

Re-entry and another beautiful child

Re-entry - such as when the space shuttle makes re-entry into the earth's atmosphere. That's what it is like when you're the mom of two medium sized children and you go to Chicago for four days and immerse yourself in the other interest in your life that comes in second to your family and friends. You sleep in a giant, pillow-topped pinnacle king bed, eat and drink at several different bars and restaurants, shop, worry only about yourself as you cross the street, careen down a bumpy road in a cab with no seatbelt and heck, order an alcoholic beverage on the airplane (didn't - but thought about a bloody mary on monday morning.) Next thing you know the plane lands, you rush to get your bags so you can make it to school on time to pick up your kids before you're accused of being late. Scoop up the kids and backpacks go flying across the back of the minivan. You come home to piles of mail on the dining room table, cries of "there's no food in the house," and a putter and a dozen practice golf balls on the family room floor. Next comes the whine of "he touched me, looked at me, smiled at me, or generally annoyed me in some way" complaints and the final blow, "what's for dinner?!" Yes, this is what is commonly known in my house (or maybe just my mind) as "re-entry." Going away is great, but coming home can sometimes feel like you have just broke through the earth's atmosphere at warp speed. My head is still spinning and my plane landed 48 hours ago.

Here's another image from Chicago. Just couldn't get my little friend "R" to even give a hint of a smile, but that's ok because she's adorable anyways.

Chanel Anyone?

Ok, Chicago's Michigan Avenue has great shopping, but what was in store for me just a few blocks west was unbelievable! I just returned from Audrey Woulard's weekend workshop with a whole new outlook on my business. Attending was one of the best professional decisions I have ever made. Thank you to Audrey, Jessica and the rest of the photographers for your warmth and kindness, your willingness to share your information and ideas, and just for an enjoyable weekend together. Here are some images from the loft studio and the urban streets and alley ways. How about a reunion somewhere warm?

your basic white onesie

just found this one from a February session when "C" was exploring the cabinets. Just like "a little black dress," the onesie is always the perfect fashion choice for the infant and toddler set.
